PhD Opportunity in Bioinformatics and RNA

Are you looking for a PhD in a world-leading research group at the forefront of Genomics, RNA and Bioinformatics?

This PhD project aims to apply computational techniques to address fundamental questions around the non-protein-coding “Dark Matter” of the human genome. More specifically, it will apply machine learning and data analysis to map and predict the function of the most widespread yet enigmatic class of genes: the long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs). The project is supported by, and will take place within, the leading international collaboration in mapping lncRNAs - GENCODE (www.gencodegenes.org).

The student will interact regularly with GENCODE members from USA and Europe.

This is a unique opportunity for a talented and motivated young scientist to train at the forefront of genomics.

The project is fully funded, and will be hosted at the prestigious Centre for Genomic Regulation in Barcelona, Spain. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated passion for genomics and have either a numerical background (bioinformatics, maths, statistics, computer science), or be a biologist with strong bioinformatics experience.

The scholarship is available to start immediately. Interested candidates should send their CV and a brief cover letter explaining why they are interested in this opportunity, to Rory Johnson (rory.johnson@ucd.ie) as soon as possible and before 15th November with subject line “lncRNA.PhD”.
